ADAMS is Profoundly Saddened by the Rise in Anti-Muslim Violent Hate Crimes

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) is profoundly saddened by the rise in Anti-Muslim violent hate crimes that have taken place across our nation in the recent weeks. The correlation between these acts and the current rhetoric in the national discourse is undeniable. As law abiding, tax paying, contributors to society we ask the leaders of our great nation to speak out against these atrocities and help bring attention to the ever-growing polarization and hostility fostered every day by the hateful rhetoric against Muslims.

In 2015, over 73 Mosques were attacked and a dozen Muslims were killed in alleged hate crimes. All these attacks are all too reminiscent of those incidents during America’s Civil Rights struggles, and especially when African-American churches were targeted and firebombed, sometimes with grievous loss of life.Just as those horrific African-American church bombings in the 1960s prompted widespread revulsion with those who so violently opposed Civil Rights for all Americans, we hope these incidents, and the too many other attacks on and even murder of innocent Americans who happen to be (Muslim, Sikh, Arab, South Asian, African-American) will result in all Americans standing up and saying, “Enough!”
