ADAMS Condemns the Attack in Garland, TX and Encourages the Mercy & Compassion Taught By Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) condemns the attack in Garland, Texas at the ADFI Anti-Muslim event. Our thoughts and profound sympathies are with the injured Garland police security officer and we hope and pray for his speedy recovery. We thank God the police were able to stop these perpetrators before they did any further harm.
We join Garland’s Muslim community in condemning this attack, and support their earlier decision to ignore the hateful ADFI event.

When our Prophet is mocked, Muslims should respond as he did: with truth and kindness. Violence, no matter how provoked by the venomous acts of those who seek to incite hatred and draw perverse publicity for their own cruel agendas, has no place in Islam or any other religion. By attempting to kill people, these extremists have
ignored and defied the tenets of our religion, and done more to offend the Prophet Mohammad and his legacy than the cartoons could ever have. One of Islam’s core teachings is that killing a single person is equivalent to killing all of humanity. We should never allow any provocation to cause us to forget that God-given maxim.
We deeply regret that a small minority of extremists has resorted to anger and violence, and appallingly claim to do this in the name of God or His Prophet Mohammad. We call upon Muslims everywhere to reject such specious claims, and instead remember to show their love for our Prophet by emulating his beautiful character every day. As the Holy Quran already assures us, the Prophet Mohammad (and all the Prophets) are constantly praised by God and His angels, and not even a billion cartoons could threaten his status nor diminish the love in our hearts for them all.
We therefore ask every Muslim in America to respond to such offensive cartoons or other frivolous and infantile insults with peace and forgiveness, and by helping to educate their friends, neighbors, colleagues and others about the mercy and compassion of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and the true meaning and legacy of Islam and the Holy Quran.
God Almighty tells us “Good and wrong cannot be equal; repel wrong with something which is better and verily he between whom and thyself was enmity may then become as though he had always been a close, true friend.” (Quran – 41:34).
As Muslims, we encourage and expect responsible speech. We reject Hate speech of all kinds and thank the leaders of the many Faiths who reject Anti-Religious bigotry. We also support the US Constitutional requirement that all speech to be protected even if irredeemably reprehensible. But we also encourage all Americans to take a stand and discourage hate speech. We are deeply saddened that organizers of events like this cartoon contest feel compelled to stoop to such deplorable levels to promote this agenda of hate simply to remain “relevant” and newsworthy.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed the ADFI, sponsor of this event, as one of 784 hate groups in the USA (http://www.splcenter.org/hate-map), (http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-files/profiles/pamela-geller).
We are sadly reminded that such ADFI rhetoric and hate was one of the malicious inspirations in the manifesto of Right Wing Terrorist Anders Behring Breivik to justify his vicious terrorist attack in Norway that left 77 people dead.
We pray for peace and redouble our commitment to work together to help bring about that peace. The senseless and savage action of a few deranged criminals must not lead to the vilification and stereotyping of the Muslim community, but should rouse us all to work together for real peace, and an end to hate speech, terrorism, extremism and conflict.
