ACTION ALERT: Our Thoughts and Prayers for Syrian and Iraqi civilians
The Iraqi and Syrian people have been suffering for many years through multiple wars and ongoing violence. We all want to stop and defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria, but at the same time we must protect all innocent civilians. We are consequently deeply troubled by allegations that nearly 1000 Syrian and Iraqi civilians were killed in Coalition airstrikes in Raqqa and Mosul in March. http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/ 24/politics/us-airstrikes- iraq-syria-civilian-deaths
We call for a full and transparent investigation (ongoing), and the redoubling of efforts to protect innocent civilians. While we support the Coalition intent to save civilians from depraved ISIS terror and equally savage Syrian Government actions, we must never lose sight of the fact that innocent civilian casualties violate American, Islamic and all faith principles. The Iraqi and Syrian people want peace for themselves and to see an end to this violence. Furthermore, they should be valued partners in rebuilding their own countries.
Any killing of civilians will only further isolate the very people who most want to help the fight against ISIS, because they are the ones who suffer most from it. Any disregard of civilian casualties will inevitably be made into a recruitment tool for ISIS. Our efforts to defeat ISIS cannot be at the expense of protecting civilians. We want to work towards ensuring a just peace and a full resolution to this bitter conflict
